No. 97-139 September 19, 1997
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has withdrawn a draft environmental impact statement concerning the proposed decommissioning of the Shallow Land Disposal Area, owned and maintained at Parks Township, Pennsylvania, by Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) under an NRC license.
The NRC staff has determined that additional analysis needs to be done on the draft environmental impact statement. The agency is also postponing its related public meeting and opportunity for hearing.
The draft environmental impact statement was published for public comment on September 4 in the Federal Register. It evaluated radiological and non-radiological impacts associated with B&W's proposed decommissioning approach and those of four alternatives.
A notice of this withdrawal will be published shortly in the Federal Register. After additional decommissioning information is developed, a revised draft environmental impact statement will be published for comment and a public meeting rescheduled.
