  • News from the Field: Scientists Map Unexplored Arctic Sea Floor
This month, scientists from the USGS and Natural Resources Canada are mapping the sea floor in the Arctic Ocean aboard two icebreakers. This research will shed light on the Arctic’s geologic history and help define the limits of the U.S. and Canadian extended continental shelf, where the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea allows coastal nations certain sovereign rights over seafloor resources.
Read more about this research, including the blog written by USGS Public Affairs Specialist Jessica Robertson, from the US Coast Guard Cutter Healy.
