Nutrients

What are the predicted long-term transport, fate and effects?

map of southern Florida

Part 2: Mathematical models developed to:

  • design optimal nutrient removal strategies
  • predict ecological recovery time after implementing nutrient controls
  • predict the effects of Restudy alternatives on nutrient fate, transport, and effects

Why model?

  • Test management ideas before altering the real system.
  • Predict future behavior without having to wait decades.
  • Put assumptions about how the system works in full view.
  • Identify the relative importance of controllable nutrient sources.
  • Evaluate complex environmental and economic tradeoffs.
