This web site is an online version of an exhibition displayed in the main Treasury building in Washington, DC. The current Treasury building was constructed in four phases between 1833 and 1869 at the same location next to the White House where the original building was constructed in 1800 when the federal government moved to Washington, DC. It was a mixed use building housing executive offices for the Treasury bureau executives, production spaces for currency and bonds and secured vaults for storage.
This exhibition explores the transition of some of these original production spaces at the Treasury building into monumental Mint buildings placed across the nation, designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect.
