The park is fully open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, as well as Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Columbus Day. Its visitor center and historic buildings are closed Monday, Tuesday and other federal holidays. Parking lots, restrooms and hiking trails are open every day except on those federal holidays when the park is closed.
During the park's summer season (late June through Labor Day), visitors can experience the lifestyles and operations of the historic iron making community through demonstrations and living history programs. Activities occur on days the historic buildings are open and vary from day to day.
During September and October the park's historic apple orchard is opened for picking by the public Wednesday through Sunday. The park's orchard includes many historic varieties not normally available in today's markets. Length of season and availability of varieties depends upon the success of the growing season. The apples are sold by the pound.
