The
King County Out of School Youth Consortium is a collaborative partnership
lead by Work Training Program in King County. Partners include local
Community and Technical Colleges and community-based agencies. Thirteen
training sites are available throughout King County ready to assist
young people as they re-engage in education and work readiness. The
Consortium model builds on the unique strengths, service delivery
strategies, and communities served by each partner agency.
Goal:
Provide at-risk-youth with education, training, employment services
and case management to help them obtain:
- Basic life skills, occupational skills, work readiness skills
- High school diplomas or GEDs
- Employment and career pathways
- Transition into post-secondary education opportunities
Who is eligible:
- King County high school dropouts not attending school
- Unemployed youth with GEDs or high school diplomas
Services:
- Reading, writing and math skill building
- English as a Second Language
- High school credit retrieval

- YouthSource
at WorkSource Renton:
Numerous service providers are located in this one-stop setting
offering basic education services, computer skills training, employment
services, and youth development activities.
- Shoreline
Community College’s Learning Center North at WorkSource North
Seattle:
Individualized educational services are provided including: life
skills, re-mediation, GED and post-secondary preparation, computer
skills, on-site employment services and case management.
- Bellevue Community College
Career Education Options Program and WorkSource Affiliate Site:
Provides support to students entering and completing post-secondary
professional and technical training. 75% of the youth completing
training in 2004 attained GEDs. 100% were employed.
- Shoreline
Community College Career Education Options Program:
Provides students with access to post-secondary professional technical
training in one of 50 areas.
- Renton
Technical College Kent Learning Center:
Provides adult basic education, GED preparation, and ESL classes.
- YWCA Youth Options
Columbia City:
Located in the Rainier Valley this site offers employment services
and youth development activities. A Learning center is available
through a partnership with Seattle Public Schools

House
West Auburn High School offers GED preparation and high school completion.
Neighborhood House provides on-site case management services. and

YMCA Seattle Rotary Education Center:
For over 20 years, this center has helped youth and young adults
reenter high school, attain GEDs and develop employment skills.
Services provided include: basic computer skills training, life
skills instruction, tutoring, mentoring, and career exploration
activities.
- Safe Futures Youth Center:
In partnership with the Seattle Housing Authority, this site in
the High Point neighborhood of West Seattle and White Center offers
learning center services, tutoring, support groups, counseling,
community service, employment service, recreational and leadership
activities.

for Career Alternatives
Since 1979, this learning center located on Rainier Avenue in Seattle
has provided services to disadvantaged youth and adults offering
academic instruction, job readiness training, occupational and life
skills training, community service, tutoring, mentoring and case
management.
- Opportunity Skyway:
Students receive academic instruction and hands-on vocational training
in the field of aviation and manufacturing at this site located
at the King County International Airport (Boeing Field). It is operated
by Seattle Public Schools.
- New Start Center
Provides risk assessment, home visits and family support, high school
re-entry and completion, life skills, leadership development, GED
preparation, tutoring, credit retrieval, aggression replacement
training, pre-employment training; and job search, placement and
support for retention.
