	Press Releases March 15, 2007   LIEBERMAN CONGRATULATES CONNECTICUT NATIVE ON APPOINTMENT TO HEAD FBI TERRORIST SCREENING CENTER   WASHINGTON – Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., Thursday congratulated a longtime Connecticut federal prosecutor on his appointment to direct the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center. Leonard C. Boyle, former commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Safety, was appointed to his new post on Wednesday by FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III. Before beginning his stint as Public Safety Commissioner in 2004, Boyle served 17 years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut. In his new position, Boyle will oversee the Center, which was created in 2003 to consolidate terrorist watchlists. The Center is administered by the FBI, and its responsibilities include maintaining a current secure list of known and suspected terrorist identities and managing terrorism information. “Mr. Boyle has been an exceptional prosecutor and public servant for the state of Connecticut. As a U.S. Attorney, he garnered several awards for his investigations into corruption and racketeering and his defense of civil rights,” Lieberman said. “I am confident he will be an effective leader at the TSC, and a valuable asset in our ongoing fight against terrorism both at home and abroad.” In 2001, Boyle received the Department of Justice’s Director’s Award for his prosecution of civil rights cases involving members of the Hartford Police Department and in 2002 he won the award again for his racketeering prosecution of organized crime figures. Boyle’s new position at TSC will put him in charge of supporting federal, state and local law enforcement agencies that conduct terrorist screening.
