Michele (Shelley) Reyes, MS, PhD
Epidemiologist / Health Scientist
National Office of Public Health Genomics,
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Dr. Reyes joined the National Office of Public Health Genomics in the summer of 2008, as the team leader of the Prevention and Translation Research Team.  Her first efforts will focus on leading the development of the Genomic Applications for Prevention and Practice Network (GAPPNet) initiative to accelerate the effective translation and integration of genomic knowledge into the practice of medicine and public health.

Dr. Reyes received her BS in Biology, from the University of California, Irvine, and both her MS and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by internships at Florida’s Dade County Health Department and the California State Health Department.

During her 16+ year tenure at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, her research has addressed a variety of emerging public health issues.  She began her CDC career in infectious diseases and for the past several years, she worked in chronic diseases where she led efforts to identify the scientific evidence for obesity prevention and control in the workplace, communities, and health care settings.  Her focus was on the translation of the science into tools and products to help employers implement effective obesity interventions in the workplace.
