Description
The National Safety Council, founded in 1913, is not for profit organization acting to increase safety and improve the health of the American people. Educational activities include safety training, home study courses in safety, and occupational health, and traffic and transportation safety services. The Council offers courses in hospital safety, industrial hygiene, safety training techniques, and related topics. Other educational programs are directed at such particular groups as the elderly, youth, bicycle riders, farm workers, drivers, and boaters. The Council encourages business and labor to adopt accident prevention measures and advocates the enactment of safety and health standards, and measures legislation at all levels of government. Data is collected on injury prevention and occupational illness and reported in statistical tabulations, abstracts, and technical reports.
