Resources for Formation of Local MRC Units


Coordinating With Your Local Response Partners (from the MRC Technical Assistance Series)
The information in this booklet on starting an MRC unit covers the following ongoing efforts: developing a network of community partners and supporters that connects to multiple resources and optimizes the effectiveness of MRC volunteers; working with response partners to understand risks, needs, and resources as an ongoing part of planning for volunteer use; communicating before, during, and after an incident or use of volunteers so critical information can flow efficiently and accurately and working procedures with response partners can be improved; and identifying activities for volunteers during noncrisis periods, which can expand the network of partners, offer volunteers a way to stay connected with the MRC, and provide needed health support to the community.

The information in this booklet on starting an MRC unit covers the following ongoing efforts: assessing the community’s need for medical and health volunteers throughout the year and during times of special need, planning activities that support community needs and MRC’s mission and objectives, promoting the MRC unit by talking with potential response partners and community champions to secure broad-based support, and identifying and pursuing financial and other resources.
