Rewarding Careers in The Office of the Solicitor

Begin a challenging career with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), and you will help shape the workforce of tomorrow. DOL offers rewarding opportunities to contribute to a noble mission: to serve and protect American workers, prepare them for new and better jobs, and to ensure the safety and fairness of American workplaces.

The Office of the Solicitor serves as legal advisor to the Secretary of Labor, other Department officials, and its legislative programs. The Office of the Solicitor has a staff of approximately 400 legal professionals.

Experienced and New Attorneys

Experienced and new attorneys are generally hired to fill specific vacancies or newly-created positions within the Department of Labor, Office of the Solicitor. These attorney vacancies are posted online at USAJOBS and specify the location of the position being filled. However, we are currently soliciting resumes for future attorney positions that might become available throughout the calendar year.

Qualifications: All interested attorney applicants must be U.S. Citizens, graduated from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and be a member in good standing of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico bar.

How to Apply: All interested attorneys should forward their resume to the e-mail address solresume@dol.gov in order to be considered for possible upcoming vacant positions.

Student Volunteer Program

The Office of the Solicitor selects many volunteer interns each year through Volunteer Service at USAJOBS. These positions are without compensation but are highly sought after because of the responsibility and experience they offer. A significant number of volunteer opportunities are located in Washington, D.C.

Federal agencies and departments offer unpaid training opportunities to students in high schools, colleges, and law schools or graduate programs. These opportunities provide work experience related to your academic program. The program allows you to explore career options as well as develop your personal and professional skills. As a student volunteer, you will be exposed to the Federal work environment and will learn about the missions and responsibilities of various Federal agencies and departments.

How to apply: If you are interested in a rewarding and challenging opportunity while receiving valuable learning experiences, please forward a copy of your resume to solresume@dol.gov to be considered for student volunteer positions as they become open.
