Cornyn: Texas' Growth Shows State’s Policies Are Working

Friday, July 18, 2008

WASHINGTON— U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, made the following statement Friday regarding the Texas job numbers for June. Texas’ unemployment rate fell to 4.4 percent and Texas employers added 47,700 jobs.

“Texas continues to add jobs and our unemployment rate is dropping, proving that economic growth in the state remains strong. Texas’ policies of keeping taxes and regulation low should be the national model for promoting economic growth. With energy prices at an all-time high and the national economy struggling, I will continue to promote policies that will bolster our national economy by lowering taxes, controlling government spending and producing more of our own energy right here at home. Increasing domestic supply will give Americans much-need relief at the pump, which is a step in the right direction to improving our nation’s economy.”

Sen. Cornyn serves on the Armed Services, Judiciary and Budget Committees. In addition, he is Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Border Security and Refugees subcommittee and the Armed Services Committee’s Airland subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.
