ASSE Comments on OSHA "Per-Employee" Clarification

ASSE submitted a comment on OSHA's Proposed Rule clarifying that noncompliance with its personal protective equipment (PPE) and training requirements in safety and health standards may expose an employer to "per-employee" penalties. ASSE urged that the decision to apply "per employee" violations take into consideration an employer's overall commitment to occupational safety and health to avoid penalties out of proportion to what can often be technical or misunderstandings in using PPE.

Solutions in Construction Safety Symposium

November 20-21 in Scottsdale, Arizona

Join your peers in Scottsdale to learn the most effective practices and solutions from recognized experts and leaders in construction safety. Featuring:

  • Keynote Presentation

Right Brain Leadership for the Future of Construction Safety

The future belongs to a different kind of person with a different kind of mind: right-brained thinkers whose abilities mark the fault line between who gets ahead and who doesn’t. Theory has it that our brain has two hemispheres, commonly called the right brain and the left brain, which think in different ways. Our right brain is more intuitive; our left brain is analytical and sequential. Daniel Pink, author of A Whole New Mind predicts that right-brained organizations will rule the world in the future. Rightbrain thinkers have a more powerful influence in their organizations, greater professional success and personal fulfillment. Join us for this presentation to learn how this thinking will also have a logo significant impact specific to leadership in construction safety.

  • Panel Presentation

    Big Projects, Big Challenges

Leaders with responsibility for the safety and health efforts on large construction projects will discuss the challenges that they have encountered and the solutions they have employed. Join us to gain insight from leaders on bridge, stadium and large hospitality projects and also the perspective of loss control authorities.

  • General Session

Create a Breakthrough in Your Construction Safety Performance

On nearly every major construction site today, injuries and fatalities often occur in safe conditions. Someone was trained, had the right equipment, and yet did something that resulted in an injury. This isn’t the way it always has to be on a construction site and you can be the impetus for that safety breakthrough that your organization has been looking for.

  • Roundtables

    “Share the Solutions”

This is a unique opportunity to share information with attendees about issues specific to construction safety. In this interactive session, you will participate in a roundtable discussion with your peers. An issue will be assigned to each roundtable and a content expert will facilitate the group’s solutions to this challenge. You can select the topic most relevant to your current project. A summary of each group’s solutions will be posted on the ASSE web site, www.asse.org after the symposium.

The Safety Professionals Handbook

image"We set out to ensure that this book was first a collection of tried-and-true information."
                           - Joel Haight, Editor

With nearly 8 years in the making, this is ASSE's most expansive publishing endeavor. "It has a bit of the feel of an encyclopedia, but with more of a story -- and filled with applied and real examples of the points made," says Dr. Haight.
