Research Center

The Research Center mission is to identify issues in law enforcement and conduct timely policy research, evaluation, follow-up training and technical assistance on those issues to provide information and direction to law enforcement leaders, the justice system, and the community.

Technical Assistance: IACP professional staff is available to help agencies address any concerns regarding the Research Center Directorate projects. This service is especially useful in emergency or limited funding situations.

Training: IACP training programs, offered nationwide, are attended by well over 3,000 law enforcement professional each year. Training opportunities can help law enforcement personnel enhance their work quality, find solutions, and make informed decisions. Conducted by experienced law enforcement instructors, each course includes materials for classroom use and future reference.

Policy Documents:  IACP is committed to the research and the development of policies on critical issues affecting the police, the justice system, and the community. These documents have recently addressed urgent policy concerns throughout the country.

National Summits: Since 1994 the IACP has held an annual summit on critical issues facing law enforcement and the communities it serves. Each summit has brought together a group of dedicated individuals to address the selected topic. Participants represent a cross-section of the community, families, teachers, students, program directors, police leaders, doctors, volunteers, and other community leaders. The summits have created a legacy of focused policy investigation and well thought out recommendations.

Topic Specific Newsletters:  IACP Research Center Directorate maintains and distributes precise newsletters that encompass the latest news regarding projects in the directorate. Programs to use these specific newsletters include: Firearms Interdiction; Services, Support, and Technical Assistance to Smaller Police Agencies; and Improving Police-Based Victim Services.

Best Practices Guides:  IACP is committed to provide successful guidelines for law enforcement agencies and professionals to use as a reference.
