The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
announces the inactivation of its Investigator-Initiated Small Grants (R03) Program effective
immediately. Specifically, the Institute will not accept, review, or fund R03
applications for the November 1, 2001 receipt date and beyond.
The NHLBI Small Grants Program was intended to
provide limited support in time and amount for research projects designed to
analyze preexisting research data generated by clinical trials, population
research, and demonstration and education grants.
The NHLBI may occassionally issue its own or participate in another IC's solicitations for small grant applications (R03) in the form of a Funding Opportunity Announcement (Request for Applications (RFA) or Program Announcements (PA)). A current example of such an announcement may be found at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HL-08-008.html. Investigators wishing to apply for a small grant should also consider the R21 (Exploratory/Developmental Grants) mechanism.
Research investigators interested in obtaining funds
for data analysis that heretofore would have been supported through the R03
mechanism are encouraged to contact the Institute to discuss currently
available options.
