Spent Nuclear Fuels
K Basin Interim Remedial action

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy want your opinion on the Proposed Plan for the K Basins Interim Remedial Action. The proposed action includes removing spent nuclear fuel, sludge, water and debris from the basin, per previous commitments to the public. The principal focus of the Proposed Plan is the treatment of sludge, as appropriate, to make the sludge safe for temporary storage and or disposal. The analyses concerning the disposition of the fuel, water and debris were adopted from the March 1996 Environmental Impact Statement. The public comment period is from May 15 through June 28, 1999. In addition, a public meeting will be held on June 10, 1999. All comments will be considered by the agencies before making the final decision.
