National Denominator

Adults age 18 and over who visited a doctor's office or clinic to get health care in the past 12 months and answered the question "In the last 12 months how often did doctors or other health providers explain things in a way you could understand?" Nonresponses and "Don't know" responses were excluded.

National Numerator

Subset of the denominator population in 3 categories according to their answer to the above question: "Always," "Usually," "Sometimes," or "Never."
