Understanding the transport of hydrothermal vent fluids |
Local and Regional CTD Surveys CTD surveys are used to determine flow patterns across and away from the ridge. These are combined with modeling studies to understand motion over ridges and seamounts.
Maximum isotherm displacements for flows across the ridge at 1 and 5 day forcing periods. Solid and dotted lines are extremal isotherm positions separated in time by one half period. CTD surveys have shown that isotherms can plunge downward below ridge crest depth. Model results show isotherms responding to the vertical movement up and down the ridge flanks caused by cross-ridge oscillatory motion. More information: Physical
