The tough part of about moving cheese in academia in particular is that (besides the fact that few like their cheese moved)—you have to shift ways of thinking and doing.
The natives are here.
But it is ok to be an immigrant!
I work with faculty to get them to understand that it is not just about what you know—it's knowing how to make it work for you.
It is about managing knowledge, sharing knowledge, and applying knowledge in an environment that is already very different that what many of us were trained in or have been accustomed to.
It is also about not sacrificing and just getting the students out the door with the stuff you feel comfortable teaching them about.
The Moral: We must not create nursing students in our own likeness.
This is very difficult. Many of us Immigrants do not trust this newfangled way of doing. We do not understand it, we are not sure that it is "real", and once we learn it, it changes. It is scary.
So, to some strategies that we have used at Hopkins to help facilitate the change..................
