Who else needs the new skills?
Our Students—
I think it is criminal that we turn out new grads, who hit this healthcare environment without a solid foundation in informatics. There are some schools that are on the ball, and have been on the ball—but there are far more that are either not including it in the curriculum, or giving the education of students in informatics lip service—or—they are teaching computer literacy in the mistaken belief that it is the same as informatics or—worse yet—they do not know the difference.
Our Faculty—I have been in academia for a while. I have seen all kinds. I am very impressed with those who may not have training in informatics—or really aren't not even sure exactly what it is, but still have the vision to know that it is the right thing for our students, our next generation of providers, to know. And then........ I have seen those that I am sure you are all can somewhat identify with...............

Maybe she has the heart of a saint, and she can teach a mean enema, but I passionately believe that if she doesn't understand the new environment and the needs of our students—then.......................
Just as is the law of survival, those who do not adapt soon become extinct <dinosaur>. As Charles Darwin said "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."
