The EA Research Development Award (EARDA) is designed to facilitate the development of institutional capacity in supporting the technical development of research grant proposals, providing oversight and administrative management of grant awards, and fostering and facilitating ongoing research activities.

There are currently two types of EARDA mechanisms available:

• Domestic EARDA. The Domestic EARDA provides training and funding for domestic women’s colleges and other institutions of higher learning, with a traditionally significant to high ethnic minority student enrollment, to build capacity in research administration. The goal of this program is to provide training and support to enable these academic institutions to contribute and participate in rigorous biomedical and behavioral research programs.
• International EARDA (I-EARDA). The I-EARDA provides funding for academic institutions to strengthen existing research administrative infrastructure for the purpose of enhancing and supporting biomedical and behavioral research capacity and activities at their institution. The goal of this award is to produce a cadre of trained academic research administrators in countries with limited resources that will facilitate and/or develop the appropriate administrative infrastructure in their home academic institution for the implementation of a rigorous, sponsored biomedical and behavioral research programs.
