What is TEKTRAN?
TEKTRAN is a database of recent food and agricultural sciences research results from the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), the U.S. Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency. TEKTRAN can be searched using free text or the title, author, summaries or a range of dates. The database also can be browsed according to strategic topical areas.

ARS encourages the food and fiber research and business communities to use TEKTRAN to locate new research findings prior to their publication and to identify fruitful areas of collaboration with Agency scientists.

How Often is TEKTRAN Updated?

TEKTRAN is updated regularly. Summaries of new articles accepted for publication are added almost daily and old summaries are removed after five years. Some summaries are excluded until they are published or to protect potential patents.

How Can I Obtain Copies of Articles?

TEKTRAN summaries are loaded on the database before the articles have been published. When the articles are published, the full bibliographic citation–journal name, article title, and volume, issue, and page numbers–will appear with the TEKTRAN summaries. At this point, you can contact either a local library to get a copy of the article or the researcher to request a reprint.

Need Assistance?

For technical assistance on the research, contact the authors listed in the summaries.

For kids' science fair projects, check out the Agricultural Research Service's great Science for Kids (Sci4Kids) Web site. It is interactive and has creative ideas for kids, 8 to 13 year olds. If you'd prefer a list of books containing project ideas, check out the National Agricultural Library's Kids' Science Page.
