Patent Title: Method to Control Salmonella in Poultry

SOUTHERN PLAINS AREA
  COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS

Patent Number: 5691200
Docket Number: 16895
Serial Number: 8675749
Date Patented: 11/25/1997

Technology Description:  The invention involves a method to control a variety of pathogenic organisms such as Salmonella in poultry.  The invention produces immortalized poultry T-cell lines which secrete lymphokines that enhance immunity.  These cell lines may be produced from T cells recovered from fowl which have been hyperimmunized in vivo.  These activated T cells are first exposed in vitro to a mitogen effective for secondary stimulation, and then virally transformed to produce an immortal cell line.  When cultured in vitro, the cell lines produce and secrete immune lymphokines which may be administered by injection to poultry to increase resistance to infections.

Biotechnology companies developing treatments and methods for reducing or preventing pathogens in foods could use this technology.  This can also be used by companies that make media for food borne bacterial detection.

Reference:  Please refer to USPN 5,691,200 (Docket #0168.95), “Method to Produce Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor from Immortalized Avian T-Lymphocytes and Method to Produce Immortalized Cells,” which issued on November 25, 1997.  Foreign rights are not available.
