Patent Title: Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Vaccine
|
Patent Number: 5976537
Docket Number: 20596
Serial Number: 8674475
Date Patented: 11/02/1999
Technology Description:
The invention relates to a vaccine for Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS). PRRS was first recognized in North Carolina and quickly spread throughout all swine producing areas in North America and Europe. It is one of the most serious threats faced by the swine industry world wide. It causes reproductive failure in females and respiratory tract illness in pigs of all ages and sex. The vaccine consists of three strains of virus (PRRSV) that were isolated in the United States. Each strain has been attenuated and determined to be safe individually and when combined to form a polyvalent vaccine. The polyvalent vaccine may be administered even during the late gestation when PRRSV is most likely to cross the placenta and cause reproductive failure. All strains have been deposited at the American Type Culture Collection.
