Directions to NOAA/PMEL from SeaTac Airport and Local Hotels

The three neighborhoods which are near NOAA/PMEL are Montlake, the University District and the University Village. You may want to keep this in mind when searching for a hotel. SeaTac airport is about 20 minutes south of Seattle off of Interstate 5 (I-5).

Directions to NOAA/PMEL from SeaTac Airport

  1. Follow the signs to merge onto I-5 North (Seattle)
  2. After going through downtown Seattle, take the Highway 520 Exit towards Bellevue.
  3. Take first exit off 520, Montlake.
  4. Take a Left onto Montlake, and follow the road bearing right when possible.
  5. Montlake will turn into 45th and 45th will turn into Sand Point Way.
  6. Continue down Sand Point Way for 2 miles.
  7. The NOAA campus is on your right directly after Magnusson Park.  A guard at the gate will direct you from there.

Directions from the Silver Cloud Inn to NOAA/PMEL:

  1. Turn right out of the parking lot onto 25th NE.
  2. Turn right onto Blakely.  Blakely will change names as you follow it, just continue on the road.
  3. Take a left at the light onto 45th.
  4. Continue on 45th which becomes Sand Point Way for about 2 miles.
  5. The NOAA campus is on your right directly after Magnusson Park.  A guard at the gate will direct you from there.

Hints on Seattle Street and Avenue name conventions

  • Streets go East-West
  • Avenues go North-South
  • NOAA NWFSC and PMEL are in the North-East quadrant of Seattle.
  • Quadrant designation always precedes a Street number or name, e.g. NE 45th Street (if the NE comes first, it's always a street and always goes East-West).
  • Quadrant designation always follows an Avenue name, e.g., 25th Ave NE (if the NE comes last, it's always an avenue, and always goes North-South).

  • Deception Pass - Deception Pass State Park is a 4,134-acre marine and camping park with 77,000 feet of saltwater shoreline, and 33,900 feet of freshwater shoreline on three lakes. Rugged cliffs drop to meet the turbulent waters of Deception Pass. The park is outstanding for breath-taking views, old-growth forests and abundant wildlife. Deception Pass is 2 hours north of Seattle
  • Northwest Trek Wildlife Park -The signature tram tour through the 435-acre free-roaming area offers the opportunity to spot different species of animals as they wander through forests, wetlands and meadows. In the core walking-tour area, visitors can get a peek at native wild canines and cats as well as forest and wetland critters. Located about 1 hour south of Seattle
  • Pacific Science Center - Featuring rotating science exhibits, a planetarium with laser matinees and the IMAX theater featuring a screen that is three-and-a-half stories high. Located in Downtown Seattle.
  • Seattle Aquarium- Featuring exhibits on marine life in the Puget Sound including fish, octopi, and marine mammals and other fish throughout the world. Located on the downtown Seattle waterfront.
  • Museum of Flight- Exploring the history of flight and the future. The gallery houses more than 150 historically significant air and spacecraft. Located 10 minutes south of Downtown Seattle.
  • Downtown Seattle - Features such as 1) Space Needle - tall needle like structure with revolving restaurant and views of the surrounding area from the top, 2) Pike Place Market - farmers market with lots of crafts, shops, eateries, fresh seafood and produce and fresh flowers, and 3) plenty of shopping opportunities at boutiques and malls.
