NOAA's Teacher in the Air Program

Currently, NOAA's Teacher in the Air program is in its pilot phase. As such, we are not taking applications at this time.

The NOAA Teacher in the Air (TIA) Program is an offshoot of NOAA's Teacher at Sea Program and was first piloted in 2004. It has enabled teacher participants to observe research activities and interact with scientists while on board NOAA aircraft. Research has focused on wind-flow patterns, winter storms prediction, hurricane awareness, and monsoons. Future TIA opportunities may be available for K-12 and college teachers and will be posted at this site.

NOAA's Office of Marine and Aviation Operations

NOAA's Teacher in the Air (TIA) program is coordinated and administered by NOAA's Office Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO). OMAO operates, manages and maintains the NOAA fleet of ships and aircraft in support of NOAA's mission to understand and predict changes in the Earth's environment and conserve and manage coastal and marine resources to meet our nation's economic, social, and environmental needs.  OMAO is composed of civilians, wage mariners, and the officers of the NOAA Commissioned Corps, one of the nation's seven uniformed services.
