DOD and GSA Announce Transition of Paging Services to SkyTelGSA # 9518 September 23, 1998 WASHINGTON, DC - Today the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and Department of Defense (DOD) announced that SkyTel will be the new provider of paging services for Defense Telecommunications Service - Washington (DTS-W). The paging services contract - part of the Federal Wireless Telecommunications Services (FWTS) contract held by GTE Government Systems - provides DTS-W with nationwide paging coverage, highly competitive prices, and the latest one-way, two-way, numeric, and alphanumeric pagers the industry has to offer. In addition, DTS-W customers gain the advantage of the outstanding reliability of SkyTel's redundant satellite systems. Last spring when a faulty satelite spun out of orbit, SkyTel's networks continued to operate. "GSA is delighted to be expanding our partnership with DOD to include these services," said Federal Telecommunications Service Commissioner Dennis Fischer. "This partnership shows GSA's commitment to our Federal telecommunications customers by providing consistent, quality paging service at the best value." Index of News Releases
