White House Honors GSA Energy SavingsGSA #9984 October 24, 2002
"It is gratifying to know that GSA associates have been recognized for their excellent efforts to conserve energy and create environmentally safe buildings for more than 1 million federal workers across the nation," said GSA Administrator Stephen A. Perry. "The Presidential Award reflects our successful efforts to support President Bush's National Energy Policy, which directs executive departments and agencies to conserve energy use at their facilities." GSA, one of four federal agency winners in the third annual Presidential Award for Leadership in Federal Energy Management, received its award for implementation of energy efficiency tools to help federal agencies meet their energy reduction goals. Other winners represented the Department of Commerce, Department of Defense and Department of Health and Human Services. The Department of Energy's Federal Energy Management Program recommended the awards to the White House. GSA was recognized for categorizing buildings according to energy efficiency, prioritizing project implementation and providing technical advice or direct funding to its regional offices.
