GSA Highlights SmartPay Features for Quick Response to Government Needs
September 21, 2001 WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. General Services Administration is highlighting some features of its SmartPay credit card program which enables federal agencies to purchase what they need to meet the government's needs, such as during the current crisis situation. In particular, GSA SmartPay Agency Organizational Program Coordinators (A/OPCs) may request (1) higher spending limits to ensure cardholders have adequate authorization to accommodate emergency spending; (2) additional purchase card accounts (recognizing the banks will require a certain lead time to deliver new cards); (3) placing employees who might be unable to make timely payments in "mission-critical" status to avoid suspension or cancellation; and, (4) overrides of merchant category code restrictions for individual purchases. GSA's customer service personnel are joined by customer service personnel from the five banks that provide SmartPay cards to the government, Citibank, Bank One, Mellon Bank, Bank of America, and U.S. Bank. All are available to assist with any special requirements that may arise.
