GSA Calls on CSC for State Dept. Telecommunications Support
October 1, 2001 WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. General Services Administration today announced Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) as the winner of an eight-year task order to support the global telecommunications network of the State Department's Diplomatic Telecommunications Service Program Office (DTS-PO). The task order has a value in excess of $107.5 million. Part of GSA's Federal Technology Service, the Federal Systems Integration and Management Center (FEDSIM) is a large-scale IT systems integrator. Competitively awarded through GSA's Millennia contract, the eight-year task order features comprehensive technical and management support services in the areas of program management, customer services, systems engineering, financial management, overseas field support, world-wide and internal networks management, logistics and property management, communications, and training. "Our relationship with the State Department was very much of a partnership, and we're very proud that this is the first task order of this size awarded by GSA in support of the State Department," said Tim McCurdy, FEDSIM Director. Among the services FEDSIM provided in support of this acquisition were a detailed requirements study and statement of work development. "FEDSIM offered DTS-PO a vehicle to shorten' the procurement process and to take the lead in developing the technical portion of the task order," said Roy Buchholz, Deputy Director of DTS-PO. "All the DTS-PO employees have a full-time job, and to attempt to develop the detailed statement of work normally required to support a formal solicitation was an overwhelming thought. FEDSIM saw the effort as just another job." Buchholz said he expects the task will result in improved work processes, more automation and eventually, a reduction in personnel costs. The DTS-PO mission is to implement and manage a global network that is reliable, and provides cost-effective telecommunications services to the U.S. Foreign Affairs community. All contractor personnel on this task are required to have, as a minimum, a Top Secret security clearance. FEDSIM offers a wide range of support for planning, developing, acquiring, implementing, maintaining, and managing IT resources and support services. Managing over $1.2 billion in new IT acquisitions in 2001, FEDSIM has a proven track record of developing innovative, award-winning solutions to government IT problems and satisfying requirements for specific IT products and services. Millennia is a multiple-award, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract, vehicle that enables GSA to meet the Federal government's demand for large systems integration and development projects by supporting its clients in a timely and cost-effective manner.
