Puchalski Appointed GSA's Congressional Affairs Deputy
July 31, 2001
"Shirley Puchalski's experience and commitment will prove to be valuable assets to the Bush Administration," Mr. Perry said. Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs is GSA's liaison with Congress, and coordinates testimony and meetings for the agency's senior staff, shepherds GSA's legislative program and budget through Congress, and helps Congressional offices resolve GSA-related situations. Additionally, the office supports GSA's 19 regional Congressional Services Representatives who coordinate space, furnishings and supplies for 1,380 State offices for Senators and Members of Congress and arranges for storage and relocation services. Ms. Puchalski previously served as State Director to U.S. Senators Paul Coverdell and Zell Miller from 1993 to March 2001. In that role, she directed all activities relating to Georgia's constituents regarding legislative issues and views and also handled all operational issues including budget, human resources, facilities management, office policy and procedures, information systems and mail processing. "A priority of President Bush is to make government citizen-centered' and when Administrator Perry spoke at the new associates orientation, he ranked customer service as GSA's number one priority," she said. "My 15 years with the late U.S. Sen. Paul Coverdell focused on running our operation from a business perspective focusing on constituent or customer service. It seemed to be the right fit to explore opportunities with GSA where my Hill experience and business background dovetailed with GSA's mission. I feel very fortunate to be a team member." Ms. Puchalski brings more than 11 years of experience in government service within the public sector, primarily in the legislative and executive branches. Prior to 1993, Ms. Puchalski served as the Director of World Wise Schools, a global education program of the United States Peace Corps that works to encourage increased awareness of cultural diversity. Originally from Northampton, Mass., Ms. Puchalski attended Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing but later studied business at the University of Massachusetts. Ms. Puchalski currently resides in Arlington, Va. Index of News Releases
