GSA Inspector General Announces June 1 RetirementGSA # 9818 May 1, 2001
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Barton had been a member of the U.S. Secret Service for thirty-two years and had risen through the ranks to the position of Deputy Director. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he had served with the Fourth Marine Division in the Pacific Theatre from 1943 until 1945 and participated in the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima campaigns. Recently, he was presented with a gold pin for fifty years of federal public service. Mr. Barton is a member of the President's Council on Integrity and Efficiency and serves on its Investigations Committee. He has provided active and continuous support to the Inspector General Criminal Investigator Academy. He represents the General Services Administration as a member of the Board of Directors for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Department of Treasury, located in Glynco, Georgia. He has been an active member of several professional associations including the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Sheriff's Association, the Association of Government Accountants, the Association of Former Agents of the U.S. Secret Service, and the Federal Executive Institute Alumni Association. He has received numerous awards including "Federal Executive of the Year," "Executive Excellence Award for Distinguished Service," and "Law Enforcement Leadership Award." # # # Index of News Releases
