Ziegler Appointed Acting Regional Administrator for GSA's Mid-Atlantic RegionGSA #9637 February 4, 2000 Jan Ziegler has been appointed to a 30-day term as Acting Regional Administrator for the Mid-Atlantic Region (Region 3) of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). She assumed her new duties for the region, which includes Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, on Monday, Jan. 31. She replaces Rafael Borras, who resigned Jan. 28 to work in the private sector. In her new position, Ms. Ziegler oversees GSA's technology, supply and public buildings services -- including 1,300 employees and annual transactions amounting to about $6 billion. She has led the effort to promote government telecommuting centers and childcare within federal buildings. The Mid-Atlantic Region now operates 11 childcare centers though partnerships with federal agencies, childcare providers and parents. She assumed leadership of one the original Reinvention Labs chartered by the National Performance Review in 1993. The region's trailblazing work has been featured in Government Executive Magazine and other publications. The region is currently focused on many workplace productivity issues, including replacing its own workplace in the near term. Ms. Ziegler was awarded General Services Administrator's Meritorious Service Award in 1990 for outstanding management, exceptional and precedent-setting career progression and excellence in leadership vision which influenced the nationwide Public Buildings Service Program. She was an agency nominee for the 1996 Presidential Meritorious Service Award and recipient of that award in 1997. She has worked with the federal government since graduating with a BA in Economics from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, in 1972. She started her federal career with the US Army Corps of Engineers, in New York City, and soon moved to General Services Administration. Ms. Ziegler lives in Haddonfield, N.J., with her husband, Ken, and two children, Carly, 14 and Brett, 11.
