Occupational Injury and Illness Classification Manual

The Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS) Manual provides the classification system used to code the case characteristics of injuries, illnesses, and fatalities in the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) and the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) programs. This manual contains the rules of selection, code descriptions, code titles, and indices, for the following code structures: Nature of Injury or Illness, Part of Body Affected, Source of Injury or Illness, Event or Exposure, and Secondary Source of Injury or Illness. The OIICS was originally released in December 1992. The current version is effective beginning with the SOII and CFOI data for 2007.
