GSA's Fielder to Depart GSAGSA # 10362 June 20, 2007
Washington, DC – The U.S. General Services Administration announced that Edwin E. Fielder, Jr., Regional Administrator in the Southeast Sunbelt Region, will be stepping down as Regional Administrator on June 25, 2007, to pursue a new opportunity in the private sector. GSA Administrator Lurita Doan has named Kimber H. Boyer as the Acting Regional Administrator until a new candidate has been selected to fill Mr. Fielder's position. “It’s been my pleasure to have Ed on my management team. His strong leadership, business acumen, tireless energy and commitment to public service will be sorely missed,” said Administrator Lurita Doan. For five and a half years, Mr. Fielder has served as the principal executive for the Southeast Sunbelt Region. He headed a GSA workforce of 963 employees that provides value-added products and services to federal agency clients across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. GSA's Southeast Sunbelt Region has an annual operating budget estimated at over $550 million and a real estate portfolio that includes 162 government-owned buildings and leased space in 1,139 commercial buildings. In announcing his departure, Mr. Fielder said, “It has been my honor to serve in President Bush’s Administration and work with so many talented people committed to excellence.” Mr. Fielder was appointed Regional Administrator for GSA’s Southeast Sunbelt Region, in December 2001. During his tenure, Mr. Fielder also served as GSA's Acting Chief of Staff from December 2004 to December 2005 and Interim Chief Acquisition Officer from December 2004 to April 2005. Upon Mr. Fielder’s departure, Mr. Boyer will concurrently serve as the Associate Administrator for the Office of Performance Improvement and the Acting Regional Administrator for the Southeast Sunbelt Region. Prior to his appointment at GSA in May, Mr. Boyer was Director of Strategic Planning and Oversight for the Republican staff of the House Committee on the Budget. Mr. Boyer also previously held executive management positions with several private sector companies. He holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Youngstown University in Youngstown, Ohio. # # # Founded in 1949, GSA serves as a centralized procurement and property management agency for the federal government.
