Kelly to Serve as Senior Coordinator of GSA's Telework EffortHR Executive Tapped to Direct Day-to-Day Operations to Achieve Agency's 2010 Goal December 19, 2007 GSA #10436
WASHINGTON – Administrator Lurita Doan today named veteran human resources expert William A. Kelly to lead the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) initiative to have 50 percent of eligible employees teleworking by 2010. "We’ve developed our strategy, and I am now putting the people and polices in place to make GSA the leader in federal telework and a model for our sister agencies," said Administrator Doan. "I am thrilled Bill chose to delay retirement to take on this critical challenge." Mr. Kelly, currently Director of Human Resources Services in the Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer, will lead senior staff from various program offices integral to achieving the Administrator’s goals. Over the next few months, Mr. Kelly will meet with each GSA Senior Executive Staff member and visit all 11 GSA regional offices to discuss the agency’s challenge and opportunity to demonstrate the advantages of telework. Administrator Doan highlighted those benefits in a speech in September, noting that telework: reduces energy use, cuts down on greenhouse gases, eases traffic, reduces U.S. dependence on foreign oil, increases worker productivity, saves taxpayer dollars, helps attract and maintain a world-class workforce, and bolsters national security. GSA Chief Human Capital Officer Gail Lovelace said Mr. Kelly is well-suited for his new role. "I can't think of a better person to help drive change in our Telework program," she said. "I expect his efforts will lead to major improvements in Teleworking in GSA and across the Federal Government." Added Mr. Kelly. "Telework is a good government initiative, linking innovation and productivity with trust and accountability to improve GSA’s bottom line. "I look forward to making telework the rule, as opposed to the exception throughout the agency." Index of News Releases
