This contract continues to provide a nationwide telecommunications relay service which gives intermediary assistance between hearing individuals and those who are speech- and/or hearing-impaired. The contract is valued at approximately $49 million and will incorporate new relay technology as it becomes available and viable.
• Federal Video Relay Service FRS broadens employment and advancement opportunities for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind and/or have speech disabilities by providing reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities in the workplace. The FRS support contract has a contract ceiling of $100 million over five years (two base years and three option years). The Telecommunications Accessibility Enhancement Act of 1988, (Public Law 100-542), requires GSA to issue regulations that assure access to federal departments and agencies for hearing-impaired and speech-impaired individuals, including federal employees. GSA established FRS to fulfill this mandate and to ensure the Federal Telecommunication System is fully accessible to those Americans who are hearing and speech-impaired. More on FRS is available at www.gsa.gov/frs. ### Founded in 1949, GSA serves as a centralized procurement and property management agency for the federal government. GSA manages more than one-fourth of the government’s total procurement dollars and influences the management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,600 government-owned or leased buildings and 205,000 vehicles. GSA helps preserve our past and define our future, as a steward of more than 420 historic properties, and as manager of USA.gov, the official portal to federal government information and services. GSA’s mission to provide superior workplaces, expert technology solutions, acquisition services, purchasing and eGov Travel solutions and management policies, at best value, allows federal agencies to focus on their core missions.
