GSA's Chief Architect Ed Feiner To RetireGSA #10130 January 10, 2005 Washington, DC—F. Joseph Moravec, Commissioner of the U.S. General Services’ Public Buildings Service, today announced that Chief Architect Ed Feiner is retiring after a distinguished 35-year federal career. “Ed has been a passionate and effective advocate for design excellence in the public realm,” said Moravec. “His commitment to the proposition that our public buildings should reflect America’s highest ideals has helped GSA become one of the Nation’s premier patrons of architecture.” Feiner was instrumental in the creation of GSA’s award-winning Design Excellence program. His efforts elevated the profile of design in public buildings and led to the selection of many of the country’s most talented architects, engineers and artists for federal building construction and renovation projects over the past decade. Moravec indicated that the agency has begun a national search for a new Chief Architect who will continue GSA’s commitment to design and construction excellence and best value for the American taxpayer. He said, "We will bring the best talent we can to GSA to continue the strong work that has become the hallmark of our Design Excellence program. We have created a state of the art federal program at GSA and we are determined to stay at the head of the pack." GSA is a centralized, federal procurement, property management and policy agency, created by Congress to improve government efficiency and help federal agencies better serve the public. GSA acquires, on behalf of federal agencies, office space, equipment, telecommunications, information technology, supplies and services. It also plays a key role in developing and implementing government-wide policies. GSA’s 13,000 associates provide services and solutions for the office operations of more than one million federal workers in more than 8,000 buildings the government owns and leases in 2,000 U.S. communities.
