FEDSIM Awards $51.8 Million Information Technology Task Order to SRA CorporationGSA #9351 October 25, 1996
FEDSIM's team of contracting and information technology professionals worked closely with the Navy in the development of their technical specifications, procurement documentation, and project deliverables. Using FEDSIM's innovative MAIQ contracting vehicle, the US Naval Shipyard project was awarded in less than 9 weeks with a 40% reduction in overall procurement costs. Industry costs to compete for this task, although not readily quantifiable, were also reduced significantly. FEDSIM is supporting the communications environment at PSNSY consisting of 30 routers, 200 concentrators, 8 miles of fiber optic cable and 150 miles of copper cabling which supports over 6,000 workstations and 200 servers. This equipment is installed in a campus consisting of 93 buildings spread over 1,300 acres. Additionally, Wide Area Network services are provided to multiple remote sites (Boston Planning Yard, Mare Island, Alemeda, and Subase Bangor) supported by the PSNSY Information Resource Management function. FEDSIM is also providing Software Engineering support to the Shipyard's Advanced Industrial Management (AIM) Program. AIM is a broad-based initiative that changes industrial organizations and business processes in which information systems individually and collectively are in a supporting role. The AIM program has defined a technology architecture based on Open Systems Environment (OSE) consistent with Government standards. The AIM technology architecture is the driving force in the migration of the Material Management (MM) System and the Decision Support System. The Material Management System is an online system consisting of approximately two hundred (200) on-line Transaction Processing Application Programs (TPAPS) and one hundred eighty (180) batch programs. The MM System applications are undergoing a Reverse Engineering Process using PACREVERSE from CGI Systems. When complete, it will have all source code and meta data contained in a single CASE repository on the HP 9000. FEDSIM will also conduct security reviews, update cable plants, and assist PSNSY in supporting other shipyard requirements as necessary over the next five years. FEDSIM will conduct independent source of full scope, cradle to grave technical and managerial expertise for all of their IT needs.
