Emergency Management Services of King County

The E-911 Program Office sponsors a training program for the staff at the 9-1-1 centers in King County. The goal of this program is to reduce the high level of stress that is associated with working as a professional in the 911 field. By reducing the stress level, the goal is to be able to retain quality, trained employees for a longer period of time. This improves the level of 911 service provided to the public by reducing the employee turnover rate so more experienced call takers are available to answer the 9-1-1 calls.  In addition, the training program provides the 911 telecommunicators with information on handling specific types of 9-1-1 calls. This training is only available to existing 9-1-1 Center Staff

Classes offered include:

  • On-the-Line Telephone Skills
  • Survival Techniques for Dispatchers
  • Communication Styles
  • Supervisory Workshop
  • Handling Domestic Violence Calls, Basic and Advanced
  • TTY and Deaf Culture
  • Handling Suicidal Callers and Hostage Negotiations
  • ICS, Weapons of Mass Destruction and Hazardous Materials Incidents
