What's NewThe What's New page contains information about recent developments on the Department of Energy (DOE) Research and Development (R&D) Accomplishments Web site, including additions of Database reports, Snapshots, Featured Topics, and other related topics of interest. It is divided into four general categories: Recently Added Features , Recently Added Database Reports, Recently Added Nobel Laureates, and Recently Added Snapshots. Spotlights – brief announcements about additions to the DOE R&D Accomplishments [added 9/2008] Recently Added FeaturesRudolph A. Marcus was awarded the 1992 Nobel Prize in Chemistry"for his contributions to the theory of electron transfer reactions in chemical systems". 'Marcus's Nobel Prize-winning work is a mathematical analysis of how the overall energy in a system of interacting molecules changes and induces an electron to jump from one molecule to another. It sheds light on many complex chemical reactions, including photosynthesis, corrosion and electrical conductivity in polymers. ' [added 9/2008] 'Computed tomography (CT) is a radiographic inspection method that uses a computer to reconstruct an image of a cross sectional plane of an object. In conventional radiography, information on the slice plane P projects into a single line, A-A; whereas in the associated CT image, the full spatial information is preserved... . The CT image is derived from a large number of systematic observations at different viewing angles, and an image is then reconstructed with the aid of a computer.' For more information see Non-medical Uses of Computed Tomography (CT) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) [added 7/2008] Some unique and interesting insights into researchers associated with DOE and predecessor agencies, the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and the Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA), reflect the diversity of their accomplishments. [6/2008] The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change". Department of Energy (DOE) researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) contributed to this achievement. [added 5/2008] Recently Added Database Reports
