Career Development within the Laboratory Practice Evaluation and Genomics Branch
Bullet (red triangle) Internships:

Intern projects are developed to emphasize use of the scientific method in addressing basic laboratory practice issues within the public health and clinical sectors. Internships are typically for three months. Opportunities are provided for interns to meet others throughout the CDC to gain a better understanding of our broader mission. This has been a very successful program for LPEGB and the interns. Internships are sponsored jointly by the CDC and either the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine (ATPM) or the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH).

Bullet (red triangle) Career Development Awards (CDAs):

This is a joint program between CDC and the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine (ATPM) to support professional development in genetics and disease prevention in an environment that links academic scholarship and public health practice. The CDA gains experience and training in public health and LGB gains additional expertise, practical experience and viewpoints related to genetics. These are 2-3 year opportunities for professionals at varying levels within their career to gain additional experience and expertise. Emphasis is placed on multidisciplinary projects, enhancing professional contacts, integrating with relevant components at the CDC, and making a significant contribution to one or more major projects.

Current Career Development Awardees:

  • Bin Chen (Clinical Molecular Geneticist)
    Faculty, Laboratory Director,
    Arkansas Children's Hospital

  • Andrew Faucett (Genetic Counselor)
