Precipitation and Departure from Normal Graphics

The precipitation totals used in these graphics and the accompanying text products are from the 6-hourly County Mean Areal Precipitation (MAP) calculated in the Northeast River Forecast Center's River Forecast Model (NWSRFS).

Acknowledgment: The Precipitation Totals and Normals for the counties of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Steuben, Sullivan and Tioga in New York State are provided by the Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center.

The "normal" precipitation is derived from PRISM climate data, created at Oregon State University. The 30 year PRISM normal from 1971-2000 is used for these graphics and the accompanying text products. For more information about PRISM go to http://www.ocs.oregonstate.edu/prism/docs/przfact.html

Text Version
The data provided in these graphics is also available as text. The information for Month to Date, 30 Day, 60 Day, 90 Day, 180 Day, Year to Date, 365 Day, and Water Year to Date are available in the Precipitation and Departure from Normal Table. The information for monthly totals and departures from normal are available below.

County Percent of Normal Precipitation Barcharts

These graphics show County averaged percent of normal precipitation. The time periods calculated include: Month to Date(MTD), 30 Day, 60 Day, 90 Day, 180 Day, Year to Date(YTD), 365 Day, and Water Year (WYR) to Date.

The X-axis is the time period in days. The Y-axis is the Percent of Normal. The percent of normal for each time period is displayed as a red bargraph above the corresponding time period. Two numbers are also presented for each period. The top number is the county averaged rainfall. The bottom number is the "normal" precipitation derived from PRISM climate data.

A dotted blue is plotted at 100% of normal precipitation. Bargraphs below the 100% line indicate a period where precipitation was below normal. Bargraphs above the 100% line indicate a period where precipitation was above normal.

Acknowledgment: The graphics for the counties of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Steuben, Sullivan and Tioga in New York State are provided by the Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center.
