NOAA Fisheries maintains numerous fishery science centers and laboratories located around the U.S. These science centers are the National Marine Fisheries Service's research centers which generate the scientific information necessary for the conservation, management, and utilization of the region's living marine resources.

These science centers seek to better understand living marine resources and their ecosystems to assist resource managers in making sound decisions that build sustainable fisheries, recover endangered and threatened species, and sustain healthy coasts.
