NOAA FISHERIES OFFICE
OF LAW ENFORCMENT SPECIAL AGENT STUART CORY RECEIVES BRONZE MEDAL
AWARD
Special Agent Stuart Cory has been awarded the prestigious bronze
medal from the Department of Commerce. Retired Navy Vice Admiral
Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Ph.D., under secretary of commerce for
oceans and atmosphere and NOAA administrator, presented Cory with
the award at a ceremony held at the Daughters of the American Revolution
Hall in Washington, D.C., on May 11, 2007.
The National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration's Office of Law Enforcement (OLE)
special agent was honored for providing unified emergency response
and incident management during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The
Utah native initiated his enforcement career after obtaining
a bachelor's degree in Zoology from Weber State University. Cory
began his career with NOAA in 1998 working as a field agent at
the OLE's Northwest Divisional Office in Seattle, Wash. Currently,
he serves as the National Program Manager for Protective Resources
and International Affairs at the OLE at Headquarters.
"I am very
honored to receive the bronze medal, but I believe the real focus
should go to the tens of thousands of victims of Hurricane Katrina,"
stated Cory. "Their bravery in continuing to struggle with
day-to-day needs shows they are the true heroes."
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, an agency
of the U.S. Commerce Department, is celebrating 200 years of science
and service to the nation. From the establishment of the
Survey of the Coast in 1807 by Thomas Jefferson to the formation
of the Weather Bureau and the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries in
the 1870s, much of America 's scientific heritage is rooted in
NOAA.
NOAA is dedicated to enhancing economic security and national
safety through the prediction and research of weather and climate-related
events and information service delivery for transportation, and
by providing environmental stewardship of our nation's coastal
and marine resources. Through the emerging Global Earth Observation
System of Systems (GEOSS), NOAA is working with its federal partners,
more than 60 countries and the European Commission to develop a global monitoring
network that is as integrated as the planet it observes, predicts and protects.
