Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. Department of Commerce today imposed a $10,000
civil penalty on N.V. Advanced Technology Company of Knokke-Heist, Belgium
for allegedly reexporting U.S.-origin equipment from Belgium to Russia without
the required Commerce Department reexport authorization, F. Amanda DeBusk,
assistant secretary for Export Enforcement, announced.
The Department alleged that on two separate occasions in November, 1992, N.V.
Advanced Technology Company reexported U.S.-origin electronic equipment without
obtaining reexport authorization from the Commerce Department. Commerce's
Office of Export Enforcement Boston Field Office investigated the case.
The Department of Commerce, through its Bureau of Export Administration, administers and enforces export controls for reasons of national security, foreign policy, nonproliferation and short supply. Criminal penalties, as well as administrative sanctions, can be imposed for violations of the Regulations.
In April of 2002 the Bureau of Export Administration (BXA) changed its name to the Bureau of Industry and Security(BIS). For historical purposes we have not changed the references to BXA in the legacy documents found in the Archived Press and Public Information.
