The Delaware Field Office is one of 46 Field Offices of the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. The Field Office is located in the Delaware Department of Agriculture (DDA) building, and operates under a cooperative agreement with DDA as part of its Planning Section.

Agriculture in Delaware: Agriculture is a major industry in Delaware accounting for over 43 percent of its land area. Delaware prides itself on producing a diverse selection of high quality agricultural products at competitive prices. The moderate climate, long growing season, and well-drained soils allow farmers to be diverse while harvesting as many as three crops per season.

* Delaware leads the nation in the percentage of its farmland preserved with 27 percent of Delaware 's land in farms enrolled in the Agricultural Lands Preservation Program and 15 percent of its land in farms permanently preserved.

* Sussex County is the birthplace of the nation's broiler chicken industry, and produces more broilers per year than any other County in the U.S.A.

* Over 3 BILLION pounds of broilers are produced on the Delmarva Peninsula each year.

* Delaware is a major supplier of vegetables, producing over 12,000 tractor-trailer truck loads per year with distribution concentrated to the Eastern Seaboard population.

* Delaware harvests more lima bean acres than any other state in the U.S.A.

* Delaware ranks 3 rd in the U.S.A. in the average number of equine per county. It is the only state to have one commercial racetrack per county. The industry has more than a $360 million annual impact to the State's economy.
