Gloucester, Mass. -- Due to adverse weather conditions, NOAA Fisheries announced today that mandatory fishing gear restrictions in waters east of Portsmouth, NH, have been changed to voluntary restrictions. Fishermen in the area are encouraged to remove anchored gillnet and lobster trap gear, when weather allows. Additionally, fishermen are encouraged to refrain from setting new gear in the area during the restriction period, which currently runs through December 19.

For a more information, see the Permit Holder letter that will be posted this afternoon on the Atlantic Large Whale Take Reduction Plan website under "What's New?"
