Dynamic Area Management Triggered by Sightings of Right Whales

NMFS Northeast Region N E W SGloucester, Mass. -- NOAA Fisheries has established a Dynamic Area Management Zone with temporary restrictions on lobster pot/trap and anchored gillnet fishing gear for 15 days (begining December 5) in a 1,600 square nautical mile area east of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. All anchored gillnet and lobster gear must be removed and no new gear may be set in the area from December 5-19. The action is being taken to protect an aggregation of right whales in the area.
