The Secretary of Commerce today approved rules allowing expansion of the exempted fishery for sea scallops in portions of closed areas of Georges Bank and off Southern New England. For complete report, see press release issued by Department of Commerce.

A chart of areas to be opened is available and a permit holder letter describing the opening is posted on the NOAA Fisheries Northeast Regional Office web site.

A summary of the 1999 exempted fishery in closed Area II is also available.
